Cattle Rustlers On Rampage, Kill SARS Operative in Kwara

The Commissioner of Police, Kwara Command, Ado Lawan has announced the killing of one of his men, Cpl Machi Yusuf of the Special Anti Robbery Section, SARS who was killed during a shootout with suspected cattle rustlers.

Addressing a press briefing on Friday, Ado said that men of SARS went after a gang of suspected cattle rustlers on a technical intelligence shared with Mokwa Police Station, Niger State Command along Mokwa – Jebba Road.

Speaking with one of the SARS officers on the operation, NEWSBEAM gathered that the officers, not knowing the terrain was moving along a bush path after the rustlers in the night but their presence was betrayed by bats in the environment.

“We were moving in the night but there are bats in the area and as soon as the bats notice our movement, they scattered and eventually the criminals opened fire on us shooting sporadically. It was one of their shots that hit Machi. Eventually, we returned fire and they fled. We chased after them and traced blood spots on the ground after which we found one of the rustlers dead and was able to arrest others while some escaped.”

Some of the crime suspects arrested include Abubakar Mohammed, Sanni Abubakar, Sani Isa, Abubakar Tukur, Lawal Ahmadu and Mohammed Jantu all males while an AK 47 Riffle and several live ammunition were recovered from them as exhibits.

The Commissioner of Police also reported series of crime suspects arrests during other operations some of which include the attackers on Yashikira/ Chikanda axis which was reported earlier in the year during which vigilante members were killed and one Alhaji Hassan Yusuf Taiye was kidnapped.

He said that crack detectives arrested some suspects among which is one Umar Mohammed aka Rua Chumo and Tambaya Abubakar who were said to put on Army Uniform to perform their criminal activity of kidnapping their victim.

It was further revealed that during a search into neighbouring bush, a Toyota Corolla registration number Lagos MUS 618 CM with which the victim was kidnapped was found abandoned along Yahsikira/Kosubosu road with about three unregistered Bajaj motorcycles.

Tambaya confessed to the crime and all suspects will be arraigned in court soon as stated by the police.

Also a three-man gang armed robbers Hassan Kanike and Amidu Kanike both males were paraded as haven gone to rob one Tobi Alawiye of Gaa Odota, Adewole Area of Ilorin.

The victim, Tobi Alawiye was said to have reported the crime to the Adewole police station on how he was stopped at gunpoint at the gate of his house while driving home his official car Toyota Corolla  registration number Lagos MUS 537 DB valued at N3.5m and was forced into their house during which their valuables running into several million were carted away.

However, luck ran out on the crime suspects as policemen from SARS were able to trace the car by a tracking device on it and was found at Sobi Specialist Hospital area. Two suspects were arrested while others are still at large.

The CP warned members of the public to ensure that they take the security of their environment seriously and advised car owners to ensure that car tracking device on their cars.
