CAILS Provost Appeals to Kwara Govt To Release Fund For Accreditation

The Provost of College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), Ilorin, Dr Musa Abdullahi has called on the state government to release money for accreditation of all the courses in the College.

The Provost made the call in Ilorin during the annual Ramadan lecture at the college Mosque.

Abdullahi said that the fund for the accreditation of courses had been approved eight months ago, but the government is yet to release the money for them to commence accreditation of the courses.

“The delay in accreditation of courses has affected the students’ progress, as the graduated students could not collect their certificates and those in school will face the same problem.

“The delay has also affected our degree and diploma programme and stopped us from admitting new students.

“This has reduced the number of students in the college and if urgent step was not taken, it will lead to closure of the school that has been in existence for 27 years, which we pray it will not happen,” he said.

It may be recalled that the Committee of Unions of Tertiary Institutions (CUTI), of the college had given the authority 21 days ultimatum sometimes in April 2018 on the issue of accreditation of courses.

They also started 14 days-ultimatum immediately after the 21 days elapsed without any response from the state government.

The lecturers have started another 7 days ultimatum for the government to address all the issues.

The Guest speaker of the Ramadan lecture, Alhaji Abdulwahab Ilory, the Chief Imam of Afonta Central Mosque, Osun state, spoke on “Curbing the Destructive Effects of Disunity among Scholars: Islamic Perspective”.

Alhaji Abdulwahab said that the major problem started when the scholars refused to accept the fact that there is difference in level of knowledge.

He said that all the Islamic scholars in the world have different level of knowledge, gift and commitment to the religion, but whatever the case may be, there is need for unity and cooperation.

The Chief Imam said that some of the sources of the problem was lack of full knowledge of the religion, also the introduction of socialisation, and lack of loyalty, respect, and jealousy.

Alhaji Abdulwahab said that one of the solutions to the problem is for the government to do their responsibilities and Almighty Allah will help us solve the problem completely.
