Buhari May Sack IG of Police Over Refusal To Carry Out Relocation Orders

The inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris may be on his way out for failing to obey the directive of President Muhamadu Buhari that he should relocate to Benue State following the mass killings by Fulani herdsmen in January.

Acording to a statement made available to our correspondent in Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday demanded formal explanation from Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris why he flouted an order from him as an immediate solution to the crises.

President Buhari had express disappointment in the IGP on Monday while during a visit to Benue in respect of the killings by suspected herdsmen in the state.

Buhari was said to have subsequently summoned the police chief to the state house for a 30-minute close-door meeting Twenty-four hours after he left Benue, a statement said,

Though after the meeting Idris did not speak to the press but presidency sources disclosed that he was directed to give full official report on Benue update and the allegations against him.

“The President demanded for a full report on police operations till date after which he will make further decisions”, a source told journalists.

“”There is a renewed resolve to make sure that the killings and bad security situation in Benue State abates,’’ the source further said.

When contacted, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu confirmed the meeting but refused to disclose details.

The police boss has been under attacks by Benue residents over his comments that the killings in the state were mere communal clashes.

If the IGP is found wanting in his explanations, he may earn a sack from the President for flouting his orders without genuine reason as a senior security operative who is expected to live by example.
