Traders at the MRS/Rail line shopping axis of Post Office woke up running heter sketa upon receiving call that their shops had been gutted by fire.

Ihejirika Osita, a trader who narrated his ordeal said it was around 1.00am when he was woken up by a call from neighbours who knew him to inform him about the incidence.

He said: “One of our neighbours called me around 1.00am to tell me about the fire. At first, I didn’t know I could be involved but getting here, I saw all my items burnt to ashes. I just borrowed one million and added what I have to restock but, see (Pointing to the wreckage) all my items had burnt down. I am married with a kid, how do I start and where do I start? I want government to come to please come to our aid.”

Other victims of the fire incident were seen lamenting the loss of their wares wondering where to start from especially in times like this?

Speaking on the development, the public relations officer of the Kwara Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle,  in a statement made available to our correspondent explained how the quick intervention of the Fire service  saved a worse scenario.

He said that the fire started at about 01:00pm on Friday night, with the Fire gulping shops Behind MRS filling Station at the Post office axis, Ilorin.

Also in his comment, the State Director of Fire Service Alhaji Waheed Iyanda Yakub said the quick intervention from the State Fire Service curbed severe damage, even though the Fire outbreak affected some of the Shops.

Yakub admonished that member of the public need to be safety conscious and when leaving their Houses and or shops by switching off all electrical appliances to prevent fire outbreak.

He also disclosed the readiness of the State Fire Service  to sensitize  all relevant organizations across the state on Fire Safety ànd its preventive measures.

The Fire fighting boss further who narrated his observations from the incidence, urged residents to be cognizance of the fact that during the course of investigations it was suspected that electric spark caused the fire outbreak.

He added that though about eight shops were affected out of forty shops in that vicinity, the quick intervention saved the day which he described as a is another golden achievement on the side of Kwara State Fire Service.

“This, as we were able to avert what would have been recorded as a great disaster in the city of Ilorin. And the fire was put under control in a twinkle of an eye due to the quick response and intervention of the Fire Brigade. Though about twelve shops were affected out of over two Hundred shops in that vicinity.”
