BREAKING: Partial Lockdown in Kwara over COVID 19 As Technical Committee Issues New Guidelines

The Technical Committee on COVID 19 pandemic in Kwara State has announced new set of guidelines to forestall the spread of the virus in the state.

Addressing a press briefing on Wednesday at the deputy Governor’s office, Dr Raji Razak, the Commissioner for health who is also a Vice Chairman of the committee speaking on behalf of Kayode Alabi, the Chairman of the committee said that a new set of guidelines include appropriate use of face mask in public places is mandatory, Concerts/carnivals/Clubbing are not allowed until further notice.

Other restrictions contained in the guideline includes that  Worship centres are not to allowed a congregations exceeding 50% of the maximum capacity of the venue so as to allow for physical distancing and that all other gatherings (formal and informal) exceeding 50 people are henceforth disallowed.

Furthermore, the Vice Chairman emphasized that the proper use of face mask in public space is mandatory therefore, the protocol of ‘No face mask, No entry’ must apply at all public places.

In view of these, all Civil servants are mandated to work from their homes while the only exemptions are essential workers, especially in the health sector. Virtual meetings are encouraged

Also there shall be partial statewide lockdown between 12 am and 4.30am until further notice.

While Transporters are urged to enforce all COVID-19 protocols, including proper use of face mask by drivers and passengers warning that appropriate sanctions will apply to defaulters and that Security agencies will deploy all lawful means to enforce these protocols because defaulters are deemed to constitute dangers to public health subject to the provisions of the Kwara State Infectious Diseases Regulations 2020 as it apply to all offenders.

The government will communicate appropriately on school resumption adding that these new guidelines take effect from Thursday December 24, 2020.
