Offa in Offa LGA, Kwara State came under attack by ferocious gunmen who shot sporadically as they move through their route to target locations, mostly banks.
According eye witness account, the men of the underworld who came in a commando manner numbered about 50 attacking banks along Sanni Abba road arrived around 4:45pm and operated till about 5:40pm, one hour after first blocking roads from both Ilorin and Osogbo ends.
The source further reveals that the hoodlums left through Igosun axis of Offa in 7 to 8 vehicle convoy without any arrest made so far.
Details of casualties yet to be ascertained as the city of Offa remains deserted but 5 bodies were sighted before it was dusk.
However, some yet to be identified soldiers from Military bases in Kaduna who were in Kwara as their home base for some personal assignments were also victims of the attack as they were caught unawares.
A similar attack was launched against Offa town four years ago after which Omuaran in Irepodun LGA was subsequently attacked too.
The hoodlums, who escaped with unspecified amount of money carted from the commercial banks, also reportedly made their escape through Igosun area of the town.
It was also gathered that the armed bandits first approached the Offa divisional police station on entering the ancient town, killing policeman on duty among other people at the station, before raiding the commercial banks and killing people by shooting them on the head.
The source reveals also that victims and casualities had been taken to the general hospital, Offa, who secured varying degrees of injury and gun wounds.
The police public relations officer (PPRO), Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed the bank raid, said that victims included policeman and other individuals.
He said that details on the bank robbery would be made after a full investigation on the incident.
