Some students told our correspondent that the incident had occurred at about 7:30 pm on Tuesday.

A student, who didn’t want to be identified, said “at about 7:30, we began to hear the gunshots and a pandemonium followed.

“What we learned was that it was an ambush of the victim. His assailants caught up with him on his way and shot him after which they dealt him machete blows in his head.”

The student said, “we are now living in fear because there may be reprisal attacks.”

Reacting to the development, the Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, Mr. Alberto Adeyemi, who confirmed the killing, said it was a clash of rival cultists.

Adeyemi, a Superintendent of Police, said men of the command got wind of the clash but said “by the time our men got there, they had macheted him to death.”

Adeyemi said an investigation has begun into the killing “and we will soon arrest the culprits and bring them to book.”
