Benue Youths Protest Abubakar Tsav’s Prosecution, Says It’s Persecution

About 100 youths of Benue origin under the aegis of Human Rights Defenders And Advocacy Center , HRDAC, yesterday took to major streets in Makurdi, the capital of Benue state, protesting what they describe as the prosecution of a former Lagos State commissioner of police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, by the Benue state Government.

The protesters which comprised of young men and women whose majority of them are from the state, called on Samuel Ortom led government to withdraw all cases against Tsav in courts by the state government saying the ex police boss, who over 15 years has been critical of governments misrule and corruption at state and Federal level, was been persecuted for standing by the truth always.

One the placards read, “Say No To Unjust Prosecution Abubakar Tsav And Trampling On Right To Freedom Of Speech”.

Also joined in the protest are indigenes of Nassaraw and Taraba states.

According to a protester, Mr John Chado, “we observed top government functionaries always shy away from the truth that’s why here in Benue state, we will not rest on our oars until the government of Ortom listen to voices like Tsav.

He is a man no one can buy his conscience. He did this when he served the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, meritoriously for 35 years “.

Tsav is in court with the state government over libel and defamation matter.
