BBC Governorship Debate: Candidates Unite On Hope For Better Kwara

The various candidates representing political parties in Kwara State has expressed confidence in their ability to rejuvenate Kwara State and make her return to its second-best state when it was created in 1967.

Speaking during a debate organized by the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC Yoruba at the University of Ilorin main auditorium on Thursday, the candidates unanimously expressed their believe that with better management at the helm of affairs, Kwara State will bounce back to its rightful place among states of the federation.

Ayo Adedoyin of the Accord party who expressed disappointment in how youths in the state engage in illicit drug abuse opined that if gainfully employed, these youths would change a new leaf and be part of the valuable work force in the state.

Adedoyin said that there is a tourists attraction in the state which can be put to shape to create income for the state and fetch revenue for the state adding that he had been able to identify the challenges which include lack of political commitment to education and neglect of the youth population.

He promised to give a 30% slot to woman folk in his cabinet if elected the Governor of kwara State, come February 2019.

Taking his own turn, the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) candidate, Dr. Abdulmumin Ajia promises to revive the education sector of the state by declaring an emergency in education sector if voted into office as next Governor of kwara State.

Ajia said his cabinet will be made up of males and females in equal proportion of 50/50 to prove his believe in what the women folk is able to do from their antecedents.

The Governorship candidate said that from his observation women are more committed in assignments given to them and that if this nation would move forward the hidden potentials in women must be tapped.

Making his own contribution, the Labour Party Candidate, Comrade Issa Obalowu Aremu who said that it is regrettable Kwara, which was the second best at creation has suddenly nose dived into poverty expressed the confidence that if given the chance, he would turn the fortune of the state around.

Aremu said that he would resuscitate all moribund industries so as to create employment for youths of Kwara state and refocus on education as well as agriculture.

He said that it is unheard of that Kwara is so endowed, yet its people are walling in poverty stressing that as a labour leader who was voted into that office by over fifty million workers in the entire west Africa he would ensure that Kwara is put back on its track as a bona fide Kwaran.
