Baptist Seminary Trains 6,000 Ministers in 120 Years

The  Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary (NBTS) in Ogbomoso has trained 6,000 ministers in its 120 years of existence.

Rev. Simon Ishola, the institution’s Deputy President (Administration),  made the disclosure on Monday at a news conference held in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, to herald its  15th annual International Theological Education Conference (ITEC).

NBTS, established in 1898, is a leading theological institution in Africa.

The 15th edition of the conference scheduled to hold from March 6 to March 8 is part of  programmes  lined up to mark the 120 years celebration of the seminary.

The conference has as theme: ‘‘The Development of Theological Education in Africa: History, Challenges, and Prospects.’’

Ishola, who listed funding and maintenance of high moral standard as two major challenges, however, said that many morally sound ministers of God had been produced by the seminary.

He also said scholars from theological institutions and universities from Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon and other countries would be invited for the conference.

Ishola  said four speakers from across the world had been commissioned to present papers at the conference while scholars from theological institutions had sent in abstracts and synopsis of papers for the conference.
