Attempted Murder: Court Issues Warrant of Arrest On Kwara Commissioner

 

A warrant of arrest has been issued on a serving commissioner in Kwara State for failing to appear to appear before the Magistrate Court in a case involving attempt to Murder Alhaji Abdullahi Adisa-Akodudu, a Journalist, member of the Nigeria Union of Journalist.

The court issued a warrant of arrest on, Deacon Tunde Agboola, the Commissioner for Commerce and Cooperative a member of Governor Abdufatah Ahmed’s cabinet in Kwara State for failure to appear before the court on allegations of causing bodily harm, and attempted culpable homicide against a broadcast journalist in the state.

 

Adisa Akodudu, the journalist is a former Chairman of the Radio Kwara chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) was reportedly attacked and beaten to pulp on March 28 by suspected hoodlums over a land dispute in llorin metropolis.

Addresing members of the Press in Ilorin on Tuesday after court sitting, counsel to the plaintiff, Yahaya Abdulrasheed Alajo, said: “Attempts were made to serve him (Agboola) court notice, but he was evading service of the summon. So, the court issued the warrant of arrest and he be arrested to make him appear in court on adjourned date of June 18.”

“First defendant, who is the commissioner, was not in court today. He was not in court despite the fact that he was aware of the case. On several occasions, the court orderly made attempts to serve him but he refused service. So, the court saw this as an affront on the court and ordered his arrest before the adjourned date.”

Efforts to reach Deacon Agboola proved abortive as his known telephone line was not reachable despite several trials.

I arrested, this commissioner who risks jail term will be the first in recent times to be arrested under a warrant from the court in a manner that embarrasses the government of Kwara State.
