APC Ward Congress: Kwara Was Peaceful, Orderly, Succesful

The ward Congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) went smoothly on Saturday across the 193 wards in Kwara state.

NEWSBEAM correspondents monitoring the exercise in various parts of the state reported that there was no violence in all the centres.

Senator Pbilit Ohiare leader of the APC national monitoring team in the state expressed satisfaction with the conduct of participants in the exercise.

“Kwara is a very peaceful state; it is one big family and I’m proud of what we have seen today. The exercise has been very peaceful and if there was any instance where people expressed contrary views it has been very minimal” he said at the Balogun Alanamu ward.

Earlier while also speaking with newsmen state chairman of the party, Hon. Ishola Balogun-Fulani explained that reports from across the state indicated that party members came out enmass early in the day to pick their leaders in a free and fair manner.

According to Balogun-Fulani there was no issue of imposition as members were asked to line up behind their preferred candidates in the open to choose.

He said, “the exercise has been peaceful and as at now several wards have concluded their own. We are receiving reports from across the state and there has not been any negative feedback.”

Asked about reports by some party members alleging they were sidelined in the process, the APC chairman denied the claims pointing out that the party had deliberately extended the deadline for purchasing the forms till midnight of Grid at when attention was drawn to their plight.

Reacting, Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed commended members of the state All Progressives Congress (APC) for the peaceful process in which they conducted themselves during the weekend’s ward congress across the 193 wards in the state.

Governor Ahmed, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba, said he was pleased with the conduct of all members throughout the exercise and praised them for their loyalty to the party during the election.

Governor Ahmed who also congratulated the leadership of the party for the well organised Congress, noted with delight the large turn out, peaceful and hitch-free conduct of the congress.

“I wish to congratulate the newly elected party leaders at the various  wards and advised them to brace up for the task ahead by being focused and committed to the party”, the governor said.

Gov Ahmed noted that the outcome of the exercise had further shown the will of the existing political structure in providing quality, acceptable and all inclusive leadership in the state.

The governor promised to deliver on the party’s electioneering campaign promises, saying that his government will continue to remain focused for an enduring development across the state .

Dr Ahmed cautioned members of the party against anti party activities and not to allow themselves to be deceived by the campaign of hatred and calumny by nocturnal politicians who are hellbent in causing confusion in the state.
