APC Crisis: Fayemi’s Supporters Chase Chairman Out Of Secretariat … Police seal off Secretariat

The crisis rocking the Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) took another turn on Monday as supporters of former Governor Kayode Fayemi invaded the state secretariat of the party chased out the State Chairman, Chief Jide Awe, and other members of the State Working Committee over allegation that they are opposed to the ambition of the former governor.

The irate crowd also vandalised some items in the secretariat.

Fayemi’s campaign office is directly opposite the secretariat on Ikere Road, Ado-Ekiti.

The aggrieved supporters allegedly vent their anger on Awe for not doing the bidding of their principal.

The attack was a continuation of the violence that greeted Saturday’s governorship primary of the party.

Almost all the other 32 aspirants accused Fayemi of compromising the process leading to a disruption of the exercise.

Awe and Fayemi have not been in good terms lately as a result of Fayemi’s lack of support for the party chairman during the period he faced trial for murder charges.

It was only about four weeks ago that the charges against him were dropped by the state government.

Sources said Governor Ayodele Fayose agreed to drop the charges following the intervention of former Lagos State Governor, Senator Bola Tinubu, who pleaded for Awe.

Awe and four others were charged to court in 2013 during the tenure of Fayemi for the killing of Mrs Rebecca Adewunmi and Mr Ago Jeje.

Meanwhile, the police authorities have sealed off the APC secretariat in Ekiti.
