Anti – Polio Vaccination: FCT Targets 900,000 Children For Immunization

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Primary Health Care Development Board, says it is targeting 900,000 children to be immunized against polio between Saturday and Tuesday.

The Acting Executive Secretary of the board, Dr Mathew Ashikeni made this known during the inauguration of the exercise on Friday in Abuja.

Ashikeni explained that Abuja being the centre of the country, there was an influx of people in the territory, hence the need to be proactive in the vaccination of children against polio and other infectious diseases.

He said that FCT was also among the high-risk states as far as polio virus was concerned.
Ashikeni said that 1,166 vaccinators would partake in the exercise along with 300 special teams and 65 supervisors.

He further said that 48 monitors would be participating beside 206 supervisors to be deployed by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.

The acting scribe said that community and religious leaders had been sensitizing their followers to the importance of immunization so as to enhance the acceptability of the vaccines.

He urged the vaccinators to show commitment by ensuring that no child misses out from the exercise, while he lauded the supports being given by development partners in the collective effort to eradicate polio from the territory and the country in general.
