Ambali Bows Out As Unilorin Gets New Vice Chancellor

As the tenure of Professor Abdulganiy Ambali ends a new vice chancellor has been appointed by the University governing council .

Mallam Abdullahi Oyekan, the  pro-chancellor and chairman of University of Ilorin governing council, announced the appointment of a new vice Chancellor for the University on Monday in a briefing with the members of the media.

Oyekan stated that the institution management reached the decision after a meeting of the council in accordance with the provisions of the Universities Amendment Act.

With this development the Oro, Ignominaborn Professor Sulyman Abdulkareem in the department of chemical engineering becomes the 10th vice-chancellor for the better by far University.

According to the council, the new appointment takes effect from October 16 while the tenure of the outgoing vice chancellor, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, ends on October 15.

The pro-chancellor recalled that interested applicants were earlier given six weeks to submit applications, adding that the deadline for this was May 26.

Abdulkareem, a former Vice Chancellor of the faith-based Al-Hikmah University, was born in 1954 at Oro, Irepodun local government area of Kwara.

Meanwhile, the management of the University of Ilorin has hailed the decision of the federal government in lifting the ban on post-UTME by tertiary institutions.

In a separate chat, Mr. Kunle Akogun, Director, Corporate Affairs of the university said that most of the students admitted into the university without passing through the post-UTME screening fall below the standard of the university.

“You know our style here; we have a very strict dressing code and a high moral standard,” he said.

“Because of that most of the students that entered through post-UTME had adapted to our style here.

“But those who did not pass through the post-UTME screening were very raw because there was no proper screening.

“If they had passed through post-UTME screening, we would have given them instructions on how to dress and our dos and don’ts.”

Akogun reiterated that the revival of the post-UTME was a welcome development as it would help universities to further maintain standard expected in the society.
