Ahmed Tasks Stakeholders To Focus On Skill, Market Relevant Education

Gov Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has called the Joint Consultative Committees on Education (JCCE), to come up with a resolution that will lay emphasis on skill and market relevant education.

 

The governor made the call on Monday in Ilorin while declaring open the 2017 Joint Consultative Committees on Education meeting.

 

He also charged the meeting to come up with resolutions that will uplift education to the deserved level in the Country.

 

Gov Ahmed was represented at the occasion by his Deputy, Elder Peter Kisira.

 

He urged the delegates to identify, collate, analyze and select the best among the memoranda from the meeting towards efficient tackling of the challenges especially funding in the education sector.

 

Ahmed expressed concern over the unemployment problem in the country, which he said was a social problem that may evolve into a serious security challenge if not tackled on time.

 

He stressed the need for the meeting to focus on functional and market relevant education and skills training to prepare the youths to meet the economic sector`s needs and drastically reduce unemployment.

 

The theme of the JCCE meeting was: “Funding education for the advancement of education: 2030 agenda-a monumental vision of providing quality and inclusive education to the Nigerian Child”.

 

 

The Governor described the theme as appropriate and relevant and apt if the country will meet the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development Goals.

 

He noted that present administration has accorded education at relevant levels the required priority.

 

The Governor disclosed that the State would soon commence the remodeling of its primary and secondary schools across the State to ensure the students study in an atmosphere conducive to learning.

 

Ahmed said the schools would be benchmarked against global standards in terms of teacher-student ratio and support infrastructure.

In his keynote address, the Chairperson of the Joint Consultative Committee on Education, Dr. Chioma NwadI said that education was the key for achieving all the seventeen goals in the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development Goals.

 

Nwadi called for adequate funding of the education sector by all stakeholders.


She also charged the delegates to come up with a flagship project on financing education and strategies for tracking the spending of funds allocated to educational institutions to ensure sustainability.
