During the riot, the irate students burnt down the polytechnic’s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS)-accredited Health Centre alleging that the facility was not well stocked with drugs, a claim that was also denied by the management.

They also burnt down, as well as vandalised about seven other critical departments, including the school’s poultry and Entrepreneurship Centre among others.

Consequent upon the level of violence, the polytechnic was closed down

indefinitely and students were ordered to vacate the campus.

The management at an emergency meeting that followed the violence,  resolved to suspend the Student Union Government (SUG) with immediate effect and set up a fact-finding panel to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the violence.

The Rector, Dr Taiwo Akande, had, while on an assessment visit to damaged facilities shortly after the incident claimed that the students, during the riot broke into the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre of the institution through the ceiling and stole not less than 40 laptops from the facility.

She also claimed that they stole eggs and chickens from the poultry while hundreds of tubers of yams were also stolen from the demonstration farm and also vandalized the fishery and bakery.
