800 Farmers To Participate In Kwara HAGIF 2017

About eight hundred farmers are to partake in the forthcoming Harmony Agric International Fair (HAGIF), holding between 12th and 15th November in Ilorin, Kwara State.

 

The second trade fair with the team ‘Sustaining Food Security’  was targeted at ensuring that farmers have nothing to loose after harvest by restructure and  improve commercial agriculture and chat way forward in boosting Agric business not only in Kwara State but in Nigeria.

 

Iyabo Amajo, Group Head, Harmony Agriculture Division disclosed this yesterday while briefing journalists on the vision, mission and their target on the International trade fair.

 

According to her, the government in their wisdom created agriculture division in Harmony Holdings so as to have synergy with the ministry of agriculture and SME to also be able to reach out to farmers. ” we are going to the issue of off-taker demand-driven agriculture. That is, we already have somebody who will buy farm produce from farmers before they even go for planting,” she said

 

“With the success of our maiden edition of the fair last year, we are able to gather enough information that enables the government to support us through the SMEs and ODDA and some money were given to farmers.

 

“This year, we have farmers in 100 groups and our focus is to change way of their farming techniques, they should be seeing agriculture not as a gift like they used to see it through the government but as a serious business and we want to open other areas of Agriculture produce and as well give farmers advice where they needed.

 

On participants expected for the fair, according to her, are; foreigners, Off takers, input suppliers, the out growers (farmers themselves), the research institute like AIRT, IITA, who will profer solutions for better produce.

 

Other are tertiary institutions: University of Ilorin, Land Mark, Al- Hikmah,  KWASU Universities among others.

 

In his submission, Shegun Soewu, the Managing Director  SMEs said the government Kwara State is in line with the federal government’s policy of Accelerated Agricultural Development Scheme (AADS) he revealed that government has constituted project monitoring team. Just as he said that government is trying to provide enabling environment and proper support for all it policies.
