No fewer than 130 members of various cults groups on Thursday renounced cultism and surrendered their weapons to the Lagos State Police command.
According to a source the ex-cultists who had in the last five years made life unbearable for the residents in the area yesterday renounced, abdicated their evil ways of maiming and killing innocents persons and their co-travelers.
It was gathered that the ex-cultists decided to come to terms with the Community and Police partnership project of the Inspector- General of Police, IGP, Mr Ibrahim Idris, as propelled by the state police chief, Mr Edgal Imohimi.
The denouncement of cultism and surrender of several arms which included dangerous riffles such as Ak- 47, Barreta and brownie pistols by the ex-rebels and soldiers of fortune, yesterday witnessed a large turnout of who is who in Badagry.
The 130 former social misfit and ex rebels who rebelled against their parents and constituted authority in all these years, told the Lagos CP and the entire members of Badagry community that there is no gain in trouble. So they have accepted not only to embrace peace but also play a leading role in mentoring children on the leadership role in order to prepare them greater tomorrow.
As of date Lagos State Command has gotten 1000 repented youths who have turned in good leaves with the yesterday’s number of the newly repented ex-cuktists.
Those who earlier toed the same line by publickly renouncing cultism after listening to the voice of reason were found in Mushin, Itire and Ikorodu.
The police boss, Imohimi, used yesterday occasion to lampooned some parents whom he said by their waywardness, their children got to this stage of obfuscation unchecked.
Imohimi enjoined local governments , communities and the clerics to as matter of great urgency, declare state of emergency on cultism using the carrot as equally called the state House of Assembly to do same but the stick in order to have a total defeat cultism in the Centre of Excellence State without further conundrum.
